  • Story size...
Posted under General by brian on Monday July 24 2000 @ 11:08PM EDT

Is there a way that I can tell the system how much of a story to display on the main page? I don't really like the fact that the story gets cut off in mid sentence..

I'm sure there is a hack you can do, but I've given up on hacking it since it makes upgrades difficult. What I find VERY useful is to use phpMYadmin linked from the admin block.

Then you can just edit the T_Story Summary Field anyway you want.

Jason: If you do implement this feature, how about some sort of token to indicate where you want the story to be cut off?

    ie:

dskfdskj kdsfj dskfjds dskfdsj sakdfjds adsfkjdsa safkjds

That way you can have variable length summaries for formatting as you like if you do want the summary a particular way, rather than a fixed length.

Or.. a setting in either the common.inc.php or in the configuration table for a char setting (of say 200 but you could adjsut it...)

REally, if you preview in any of the newer unstables you can edit what your preview looks like... (Which is good when your links get cut in the middle etc and so on.

How about by default using the first paragraph as a summary, eg break when you stumble upon "\n\n" or something. Also, you could force users to check their story in a "preview" mode when submitting the story. In the preview mode you split the text inte summary and whole story. That way the poster can edit/adjust his summary before posting finally.

Btw, i really think localisation should be prioritized in your TODO. I'm using phpweblog 0.3.0 at a swedish site and would love to help with a swedish translation once the locale basics is there.
