  • Just suggestions. - General

    - SEPARATE HTML CODE FROM PHP CODE. Please. Until then, this script is not flexible enough for those who wish to implement design ideas that venture beyond changing background colors or flip-flopping the news/blocks, as they must rehack for every code update or sacrifice control over their site.

    - Archive news over X months old. Page links at the bottom should only apply to news from the last X months. Include admin toggle to automatically prune news older than X months.

    - Mass prune admin option.

    - Change .php3 to .php to comply with PHP4.

    - Option to preview _or_ post immediately.

I am in agreement with all points here. The obvious goal with the 'tremendous' layout system was to minimize the need to edit html. Doing as suggested almost counters the original intent I had in mind with a layout system like this. The seperation of the major areas of the layout is where I'm heading. So ultimately, the designers can hand edit each area specificallty to their liking, then be able to piece the site together using the layout system.
An auto/manual prune option is ideal, and will be added shortly, as well as the other things you mentioned. Thanks for the input.

some servers do not parse .php nor do the users have access to http.conf . it would be nice if a find/replace script were available that basically allowed one to "toggle" all references to .php / .php3 within their file. i started work on such a script but lack the proper skills to do it efficiently and halted my efforts. if i do finish it i'll let you know, it shouldn't be that difficult to do. btw, i've also been on a server that only allows .php and yes, both should always be allowed but sometimes life isn't ideal.

the latest unstable has .php extensions. this just makes sense now since most if not all of phpWebLog has been developed under php4.0 (although no php4 specific funtions are being used)

My server definitely does not parse .php, so I hope Philip finds a way of writing his projected toggling script.

What's wrong with using the addtype handler via .htaccess?

    urls such as:

    index.al_gore_is_a_socialist

    will be parsed as php.

What is wrong with it is many people do not have root on the box they are working on ....

    Think Hosting :-)

If you own the box, sure, add whatever parser you like.
