  • Error: Destination Unreachable?
Posted under General by Blake on Sunday June 11 2000 @ 02:02PM EDT
After installing 2.4, doing the editing of files and trying to log into the admin page, I get that error message as the only story title after putting in the password. It only asks for the password once, and every time after I get the error msg.

Also, something I notice with the change in this version is that I can't run any of the .sh scripts. I think it's a problem due to my hosting provider. I can edit them and cat them, just not run them. I get 'no such file or directory'.

Well, after reading the previous post, I went and corrected the case on getTopic in common.inc.php3, but this hasn't changed the result, and I can't reach the admin page at all.

The no such file or directory error should be easily fixable, although it's very surprising you're getting this error. At the top of the scripts, you'll see
#!/bin/sh. Perhaps the system in question doesn't have a /bin/sh which would shock me, but perhaps you don't have access to it. This would cause the problem you mentioned.

You should only get the "Destination Unreachable" error msg when it's trying to access something under a topic which doesn't exist. If you contribute a test story, the error should go away.

    I'll check the bin/sh, thanks.

I tried to do a story, but it's waiting to be moderated, so it doesn't show. Since I can't get to the admin section, I'm in a catch 22

btw, I have a new setup.sh script which I will include in future releases which is an interactive database tool to create and import default values into the phpweblog database based on the information you give it. Presently, it's only intended for clean installations, not upgrades though.

Are you receiving a cookie after you enter the password?
    Blake writes on Sunday June 11 2000 @ 02:19PM EDT: [ reply | parent ]
well, the hosting server has a bin/sh, but it says that sh isn't a directory. an ls shows that sh -> bash* But that doesn't help me either.

I'm switching companies this month, so hopefully that will change.

Next question, is there an easy way to do upgrades? Do the tables stay the same? I've been starting over with each release and redoing my layouts.
    Blake writes on Sunday June 11 2000 @ 02:20PM EDT: [ reply | parent ]
I assume so on the cookie, it only asked me the first time and hasn't asked me since, just takes me to the stories page with the error message, no matter how many times I've tried to go to admin. Also tried resetting password, but no luck.

Currently, upgrading is a pain in the ass. JasonW has constructed a sql script which alters the 0.2.3 tables to 0.2.4 which works nicely I've been told.

In future versions, an upgrade.sh will be included which alters the tables accordingly since there are usually a lot of database changes between versions.

Also, I have planned to save all layouts in xml instead of stored in the database. This is one of the things I plan to do very soon, along with rewriting the way the layout config works.

I went and looked in my cookie file, the only one that jumps out is for phpweblog.org which says 'shithead user'. I assume that's for this site and not mine.

yea, that was a test SiteKey i was using here at one point. It doesn't look like you're receiving the cookie at all. Which browser are you using?

Netscape communicator 4.73. Cookies are enabled.
