Subtitle for stories

Can someone give me a hint as to the fastest way to add a "subtitle/subhead" field to a story submission? My PHPWebLog site is being used as a backend for a newspaper/magazine site and I'm looking for ways to improve article layout.
Also, is there any whisper of developing some sort of image support for articles outside of simply posting HTML links to them in the body of an article? See Interactive Tools' Article Manager to see what I mean -- it has an image upload capability that allows images to be posted (up to 10 per story) along with captions, which are then included in the article text by a ref tag like ::image1:: ... very professional looking, but also quite expensive.
I love PHPWebLog. I've tried EVERY open source CMS/weblog system out there and keep coming back to PWL. Kudos on a great platform, y'all!
