  • Porting old news into a new phpweblog
Posted under Development by max on Tuesday May 15 2001 @ 09:01AM EDT
Development A friend of mine has a journal, He wants to port it into a phpweblog but.....

....imagine that this journal was born in 1999, how can I port old news into PHPweblog?

Have anyone experienced this? how about dates and archive?

    Thanks

    Max

It's really just a matter of changing the database structure to fit phpWebLog's database. Look at tables.sql in the etc/ directory and compare your journal database to the T_Stories table. You may be able to ALTER the table in your journal to match it.

Another way would be to dump the journal (only the fields which match the T_Stories fields), and import them back into phpWebLog with mysql.

Is the current journal system using a particular application or was it built customized?

The journal is a perl script. I really don't know what was the application.

Is it possible to alter data fields via phpmyadmin in T-stories?

    TTTThanks

The date format in T_Stories is using MySQL's date datatype, so as long as that matches, you're safe. Nothing would be guaranteed to work here, so be sure to make backups of everything.

Too bad there's not a generic data converter to do what you're looking to do. If the journal is using another weblog application, perhaps someone has already written a script.
